Justice Mansoor Ali Shah takes oath as Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan

According to private TV channel Aaj News, the oath-taking ceremony was held at the Supreme Court, where Senior Supreme Court Judge Justice Muneeb Akhtar administered the oath to Justice Mansoor Ali Shah. The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Supreme Court judges, Attorney General, law officers and lawyers.

It should be noted that Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi will pay an official visit to China from April 22 to 26 with a high judicial delegation, during which Justice Mansoor Ali Shah will be the acting Chief Justice of Pakistan.

According to the Supreme Court statement, the delegation will represent Pakistan at the conference of Chief Justices of SCO member countries. The Chief Justice will be accompanied by Justice Aminuddin Khan, Justice Shahid Waheed, District and Sessions Judge Gwadar Zafar Jan and Senior Civil Judge Lakki Marwat Nadia Gul Wazir. 

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the Supreme Court of China is also expected to be signed during the visit. The Chief Justice will also meet his Iranian counterpart on the sidelines of the conference, while Justice Shahid Waheed will address a session on the use of artificial intelligence in the judiciary.

According to the announcement, after the conference, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi will travel to Turkey where he will participate in the celebrations of the 63rd anniversary of the Constitutional Court.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah will assume the duties of the Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan during Chief Justice Yahya Afridi’s visit, while Justice Mansoor will remain the acting Chief Justice until Chief Justice Yahya Afridi returns home.
